David V. Smullen, MD
Dr. Smullen earned his undergraduate degree from Salisbury University in Maryland; master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from Duke University, where he studied electromagnetics and solid state physics; and his medical degree from Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans, where he also completed his internship. He followed up with a radiology residency, and two-year neuroradiology fellowship at the University of Florida School of Medicine in Gainesville, where upon completion, he was appointed Assistant Professor of Neuroradiology.
In addition to his medical training, Dr. Smullen was a Senior NASA Engineer. His career as an engineer led him to the medical field after he designed and implemented systems for neuroimaging for the UNC Department of Physiology Neuroscience Laboratory.
Dr. Smullen’s unique and diverse background has led him to develop an innovative procedure that minimizes patient down time from deep neck biopsies. He has also authored numerous published articles, medical presentations, and is a member of the American College of Radiology and a Senior Member of the American Society of Neuroradiology.
